Abstract: The Yangtze River embankment should be regularly monitored and evaluated to prevent revetment works from damaging or bank collapsing. The authors discuss the accuracy of plane position and measurement depth of the underwater multi-beam sonar system according to its features such as full coverage, high precision and high efficiency. We also discuss the technique of monitoring revetment works by using underwater multi-beam technology taking Puziwan revetment project in Jianli county of Hubei province as an example. Full coverage sweeping survey was carried out for the embankment in the same period for two consecutive years. Having analyzed the topographic change of the embankment revetment by three different methods, we found that after the implementation of the revetment works, the deep groove moved towards the right bank, the bank slope erosion and deposition were in balance, and the revetment work was stable.  
