Abstract: Sluice gate is generally distorted under the ice pressure in icy river of north China. The corrosion of sluice gate will accelerate, and even the steel plate of the gate will be penetrated right through around the ice layer if not maintained in time. The function and safety of the sluice will be severely affected. In the present research, methods including pressure water jet, compressed air bubble, and heat-preservation board are tested and evaluated to prevent the static ice pressure from damaging the sluice gate in Haihe River Basin. The pressure water jet method is proved to be the best approach by observation through several winters, and is suggested to be applied to sluice project in cold regions.
