Abstract: Based on detailed investigation on the engineering geological conditions of the natural slope at the right abutment of Wudongde hydropower station on Jinsha River, the global stability of artificial slope was analyzed systematically by means of macro-analysis and numerical calculation. Potential instability model of artificial slope block was given via structural plane analysis. Starting with the influencing factors of block stability, an evaluation standard was established, based on which the block stability was evaluated. Engineering geological analysis showed that the global stability of artificial slope was good. Three-dimensional discrete element simulation results showed that the artificial slope displayed inconspicuous deformation characteristics. Most of the potential blocks of artificial slope were generally stable. According to global and local stability analysis, reinforcement measures were put forward for the slopes. The research provides a basis for the design and construction and for similar projects.
