Abstract: A suitable centrifuge model is built by simplifying the deep foundation pit excavation project near the metro in Shanghai. Deformations of the deep excavation project adjacent to the metro tunnels are investigated through centrifuge model test, and is meanwhile simulated by 3D finite element numerical simulation, in which the constitutive relationship of soils are described with the HSS model which is based on smallstrain stiffness. The results are compared with those of the in-situ monitoring data. It is found that results of the three methods are consistent in qualitative rules but still differ greatly in the quantity, and the 3D numerical simulation using HSS model could better simulate the deformation of deep foundation pit, especially the deformation of diaphragm walls.
