Abstract: Site selection is a primary issue in the construction of underground water-sealed caverns for storaging energy resources, and in particular, the evaluation of site's geological adaptability is crucial. In this paper, a quantitative evaluation model for the geological adaptability of preselected sites is presented according to the energy water-sealed principle. Experiences and lessons from several underground water-sealed caverns were taken as reference. The principles of selecting evaluation objectives and indexes were expounded at first; subsequently, an evaluation system consisting of 9 secondary indexes in terms of regional stability, rock mass stability and sealing of water pressure was established; then each secondary index was scored by the method of point rating, and the weight of each first-grade index was determined through fuzzy analytic hierarchy process; finally, the evaluation model was built by combining product of related secondary indexes and weighted sum of the first grade indexes, and the evaluation model was programmed through Visual Basic software platform. To verify the evaluation model, an underground water-sealed oil storage cavern in Huangdao, Shandong province was taken as an example. The results show that the model has high feasibility and reliability. It is in accordance with the data of preliminary feasibility study and could be referenced for related projects.
