Abstract: A self-adjusting balance system is developed to achieve real-time trim and reduce unbalanced force when geotechnical centrifuge is running. In this system,a feedback control system which consists of electromagnetic valves, sensors, and a PLC is constructed to controllably inject water into a tank fixed in the counterweight part, and hence adjusting the unbalance induced by changes of load in the work part. This system was applied to a geotechnical centrifuge to conduct self-adjusting balance tests, and finally achieved real-time trim when centri-fuge’s speed or load in the work part increases. Compared with traditional adjusting balance mechanism which drives a counterweight block by a hydraulic cylinder or a motor, this system has a simpler structure and a wider range of adjusting balance.
