Abstract: On the basis of measured data of water and sediment and terrain,we analyzed the features and trend of channel evolution and the main problems of the reach from Daijiazhou to Huangshi in the middle Yangtze River. Results show that the overall terrain keeps stable on the whole. Nevertheless, significant changes still exist in part of the reaches, for instance, the regime in the diverging area of Daijiazhou sandbar head is unstable with large mainstream swing, affecting the navigation safety; and the left bank of Daijiazhou sandbar’s left branch as well as the protected bankline at the concave bank of Huangshi reach are unstable scoured by the mainstream, affecting the dike safety. Furthermore, subsequent regulation considerations are put forward as follows bankline reinforcement for the left branch of Daijiazhou sandbar, submerged spur dike project above the average of convex bank, protection of upper and middle part of the right border of Daijiazhou sandbar, maintenance and reinforcement of Huangshi river bend and comprehensive regulation on Huangshi beach. This research could be a scientific basis for regulation and project design.
