Abstract: The characteristics of rural domestic sewage, the main technical deficiencies of constructed wetlands, and the application of photocatalysis and photovoltaic-photothermal technologies in wastewater treatment are firstly introduced as a basis. Solar heating wetland and solar aerated anti-blocking wetland are developed and presented in the light of utilizing natural solar resource. By using this combined technology, the technical restrains of wetlands including low treatment efficiency in cold seasons, clogged easily and low oxygen availability can be overcome. This novel technology of solar combined wetland has no energy consumption, and is easy to operate and beneficial for improving the wetland’s effluent water quality and long-term functional stability. It is a promising approach of treating wastewater in the vast rural area where there’s abundant solar energy resources.
