Abstract:

Real-time scanning observation on the meso-damage in cement emulsified asphalt concrete was carried out by means of computerized tomography (CT). The CT images of concrete samples under continuous loading were obtained. With approaches of visual analysis, CT number analysis and analysis on the relation between CT number and damage variable, it was concluded that the damage process of the cement emulsified asphalt concrete could be divided into four stages  as follows: compression, enlargement, crack expansion, and damage. Meanwhile, the concrete has toughness in the compression process. Before the ultimate load, micro-enlargement intensified into compaction for each section of the concrete; whereas after the ultimate load, damage developed to failure steadily.
