Abstract: Junction point at the inlet of river channel plays an important role in the formation and evolution of goose-head braided channels. With Luxikou goose-head braided channel in the middle and lower Yangtze River as an example, we summarized the differences among each evolution cycle. On the basis of this, we analyzed the effects of Chibishan, as a junction point, on the evolution of Luxikou braided channel in the presence of regime variation of Jiepai Reach in the upper stream. The result reveals that the upstream river regime changes the ski-jump role of junction point, affects the hydrodynamic conditions of the inlet, and finally influences the cyclical fluvial process.
