Abstract: Cracking is a common phenomenon in the construction or operation period of concrete dams due to the low tensile strength of concrete. Grouting is considered to be an effective approach to repair the concrete crack, which can reinstate the integrity and bearing capacity of the dam. The stresses of concrete dam are redistributed by cracks before grouting; the effect of solid-fluid coupling exists between the concrete and the grouting material, and excessive grouting pressure easily leads to crack propagation during grouting; the new state of stress appears as the grout sets, so the effect of the grouting needs to be reasonably evaluated. In this paper, the application achievements of grouting in reparing cracks of concrete dams were reviewed. Then, some problems concerned were discussed, such as the grouting opportunity, the maximum grouting pressure to avoid hydro-fracturing, and the reasonable evaluation method of grouting effect in the repaired dam.
