Abstract: It’s of great importance to protect the shiplock concrete wall from damages by crash and abrasion with ships and to maintain its durability. A series of polyurea materials based on polyaspartic esters were prepared. By analyzing the mechanical properties of these materials, the optimal polyurea material was selected and was coated on concrete to test its freeze-thaw resistance, carbonation resistance, and anti-abrasion ability. Based on these indoor tests, the selected polyurea material was applied to the Gezhouba Dam and the Three Gorges Dam to perform in-situ productive test. All the test results indicated that the prepared polyurea material is a promising protective coating material of remarkable weatherability and impact resistance. This polyurea material is expected to solve the worldwide difficulty of protecting shiplock concrete wall.
