Abstract: Symmetrically inclined double-pile is the basic and commonly used form of inclined piles. Theoretic research in this regard lags behind compared with engineering application. Research on the bearing capacity of symmetrically inclined double-pile under complex loads is rarely seen. In this paper, the influence of vertical load on horizontal bearing capacity is investigated through model test on symmetrically inclined double-pile with the pile inclination of 10°. Results indicate that as vertical load increases, the duration of horizontal displacement increases, and the horizontal bearing capa city increases. However excessive vertical load would reduce the horizontal bearing capacity. Since the load condition in this research is highly consistent with engineering practice, it is of guiding importance for the theoretical analysis, design and application of symmetrically inclined double-pile.
