Abstract: Based on data of the second national soil survey, the soil erodibility factor ( K ) of central China was calculated by EPIC (Erosion Productivity Impact Calculator) model, and the spatial distribution of soil erosion factor of different soil types was worked out. It was revealed that the K value of soils in central China mainly ranged from 0.09 to 0.39 , with high values in east and west Henan, and low values in south Hunan and the middle and east border of Hubei and Henan Province. There are 25 soil types in central China, among which cinnamon soil has the largest K value of 0.34 , followed by red clay of 0.31 and skeletal soil of 0.19 . The red soil, paddy soil, fluvoaquic soil, yellow soil, and yellow-brown soil, which are main soil types in central China, in total account for 72.63% of the whole area with K values respectively of 0.250 , 0.253 , 0.287 , 0.225 and 0.244. The above figures generally reflect the soil erodibility of central China region.
