Abstract: The fatigue failure of baffle wall induced by turbulent flow in the stilling basin of a large hydropower project was systematically researched. Through overall hydraulic model tests, the fluctuating pressure on two sides of the baffle wall were measured and analyzed, the self-vibration characteristics were calculated and the hydraulic resonance was examined. The static and dynamic stresses of the baffle wall were calculated, and the strength of the wall was checked. For segments which don’t meet the strength requirements, reinforcement and crack control arrangements for the wall were calculated. The fatigue failure resistance of the reinforced concrete baffle wall were calculated with two methods, one is based on reference [4], and the other is based on reference [5]. The amount of reinforced concrete bars can be increased to meet safety requirements.
