Abstract: When exploring overseas markets, it is often required to adopt European Standards in the investigation and designing. The project participants including general contractor, surveyors and designers, and constructors have to command the use of European Standards. In this paper, we compared the Eurocode 7 and Chinese geotechnical code, and summarized their differences in the following two aspects the grading of geotechnical investigation, and the classification of rock and soil. We concluded that the Eurocode is more universal and theoretical, and is greatly flexible. The results could be used as reference for Chinese surveyors and designers in their overseas projects.
