Abstract

Canopy interception is an important component in hydrological cycle. In order to study the influence of rainfall and forest stand characteristics on the canopy interception of camphor-tree, an interception experiment was designed to reveal the relations between interception with the impactor factors such as rainfall amount, rainfall intensity, leaf area index(LAI) and tree age. Four tree samples were collected from the camphortree area in Beibei, Chongqing. Sixteen combinations of rainfall amount, rainfall intensity, interception amount, and the respective LAI from these samples were obtained. Simulation test result shows that the rainfall amount, intensity and LAI are the main factors influencing interception, yet the tree age’s effect is not obvious. The interception amount is inversely proportional to rainfall intensity, directly proportional to the LAI, and appears a quadratic function with rainfall amount. Furthermore, it seems that stretch direction of leaves may have a great effect on interception, and the experiment is still needed to improve.
