Abstract

The parameters used to evaluate seismic performance of the structures include Intensity Measured (IM), Engineering Demand Parameter (EDP), Damage Measure (DM) and Decision Variable (DV). One can compute the annual exceedance of these parameters based on probability analysis of seismic hazard. This study adopts the EQWEAP analysis with the concepts of performance based design and seismic hazard curves as well as design codes to investigate the seismic performance of piles at Taiwan metropolitans. The representative earthquakes were selected. The largest pile displacements and moments were computed at various levels of earthquakes considering small to moderate design and maximum acceleration of maximum consideration EQs at different target PGAs and foundation sites of similar velocity profile. Applying with massive parametric analysis and specialist judgments, the indices for seismic performance of the pile foundation could be made. The corresponding analytical procedures can be applied to other geotechnical structures.
