The river change at Hechang Island was the severest in the Zhengyang section. The island-head landslide back and bank collapse happened frequently. It caused the river regime change from main channel to branch. The instability has seriously affected the normal operation of the national facilities and the safety and smooth of the golden waterway. After taking a series measures such as riprapping revetment, sinking trees into socket pools to promote deposition, filling sand bags to structure submerged dam to restrain flow, the river pattern of Hechang Island graduates into stability and gets some improvements. The effects of these control measures are outstanding, the regulation practice will give an enlightenment for the people who are working on the Yangtze River braided river regulation.
