With the rapid development of water resources, modern hydraulic and hydro-power engineering must be in harmony with environment and ecology. First, the impacts of hydraulic and hydro-power engineering on fish resources were analyzed, the development of dam-passing facilities for fishes abroad, and the three periods of research and construction for fishery facilities at home were summarized. Second, the types of fishery facilities at home and abroad were introduced, and the main types, technical parameters and characteristics of fishways were summarized in detail. Meanwhile the recent advance of technical methods in this field was presented. Finally, the research prospects were put forward in combination with the strategy of water resources in the new era.
