Abstract: The spatial and temporal data of the land utilization changes in Danjiang basin in the 1990s were acquired by means of 3S-technology, according to the TM satellite image data of 1990 and 2001. The result shows that the land use types in Danjiang basin are mainly woodland, grassland and farmland, and the percentages in the study area of woodland, grassland and farmland in 1990 and 2001 were 71.73% , 14.12% , 9.15% and 76.29% , 10.57% , 7.49% , respectively. From 1990 to 2001, the biggest annual changing rate came from woodland, reaching 34.73% , followed by 27.01% of grassland. The annual changing rates of unutilized land and water areas were comparatively small, being 0.24% and 0.32% , respectively. The biggest space dynamic degree came from garden land, followed by unutilized land. It shows that the spatial transformation of both types of land use is relatively frequent, particularly for the recent garden land, which is related to the decrease of land use degree, farmland reduction and the proportion increases of garden land, woodland, construction land, etc.
