Abstract

Transient analysis on thermal effect in roller compacted concrete(RCC) during construction is very important for quality control. RCC is of thin layers with fast rising and each layers material properties are different for various ages. Laminated element including multi-layer materials can efficiently reduce calculating scale. But laminated element has a progress of element combination and cant be used between new and old concrete, which increase the difficulty of simulating reality of RCC. Growing-joint model proposed in the paper can effectively avoids element recombination and can deal with problems induced by connection of elements between new casting concrete and casted concrete, which provides gradual transition between fine and coarse meshes. So it not only improves efficiency but also retains precision. The results of example calculation show that growing-joint model is applicable to RCC construction.
