Abstract

Goupitan Arch Dam (max.dam height 232.5 m) is one of highest concrete arch dams under construction in the world at present. Because its engineering scale is huge and the technique of construction complex, studying the effects of some parameters on arch dam thermal stress field would result in an important action which can contribute to doing a better temperature control design and ensure engineering construction quality and scheduling. There are many parameters affecting on arch dam thermal stress field. By use of 3D finite element method simulating the whole process of concrete construction, the effects of some parameters (adiabatic temperature rise, elastic modulus and residual thermal stress before sealing dam slot) on arch dam thermal stress field are analyzed. The study results are concluded as follows: The change of adiabatic temperature rise has very great influence on the temperature of the dam in early stage; elastic modulus and thermal stress are a linear relationship; in consideration of residual thermal stress before sealing dam slot, the calculated stress data are more than the synthesis stresses calculated according to the arch dam specification.
