Abstract:

The paper introduces the impacts of vegetation restoration on soil properties, such as soil moisture, soil bulk density, soil organic matter, soil nitrogen. The research results related to vegetation restoration indicate as follows: 1. Its influencing soil properties represents at both respects,i.e., decreasing soil moisture and improving nutrient contents, but decreasing soil bulk density in most of the cases. 2.The time needed to improve soil properties by vegetation restoration is different from different indexes, which could take 3 to 20 years. Under some site conditions, soil properties of artificial forest will be lower than those of natural forest for long time. 3. To the plant species that has little effect on improving soil property, the soil properties can be improved by rational allocation. It must be pointed out that the threshold for vegetation restoration should be further researched.
