An experiment on the ionic soil stabilizer(ISS) to reinforce the red clay of Hanyan district of Wuhan was performed by the different methods and different mix proportions such as Atterberg limits test, shrinkage test, free expansion ratio test and unconfined compression strength. Through analyzing the test results, the change law on the compactness and intensity of the red clay reinforced by ISS was found. The study results indicate that the bearing capacity of the reinforced red clay is enhanced, combined water is decreased an d the plastic index of the reinforced red clay would be decreased to about 12%, but it is not true that the more ISS, the better. Finally, the mechanism of the red clay reinforced with ISS is analyzed by the aspects of the structure of pair - electricity and εelectricity potential.
