Abstract: Troublesome problems in getting the data of topographic sections were indicated before a hydraulic model was made. Based on Visual basic6.0, an automatic system for drawing topographic section in hydraulic model was proposed. The principle, function, method, and characteristics of this system were introduced. The process and its result were illustrated with an example.The results showed that the system can enhance manufacturing efficiency, avoid
man － made reading errors and meet precision requirements. 
