Abstract

For determining a reasonable length of inductive slotused in the blocking design of a RCC dam, a calculation and contrast research was performed through analysing the effects of inductive slots with different lengths, which are set at the upstream and downstream between two pouring blocks, and by using 3-D FEM simulating the dam construcion process. The results indicated there exists a reasonable size of inductive slot for avoiding to emerge crack
s on the upstream and downstream surfaces of the dam, concretely, for this project, 3-meter - long inductive slot and 3 - meter - long or suitably longer than this size should be set between two pouring blocks in the upstream and downstream of the dam respectively,
and then, it would be more available for improving stress state inside the dam.
