Analysis on Reinforcement across Transverse Joints for Xiaowan Arch Dam to Resist Strong Earthquake

Abstract

Using the new numerical model for reinforced joint with consideration of the bond and slip between reinforcing bars and surrounding dam concrete, the 3D FEM nonlinear analysis for 292 m high Xiaowan Arch Dam under design load working conditions of earthquake was conducted, and the effects of different kinds of reinforcement on stress, slip and transverse joint openings were studied. Based on the reliability, economy and feasibility of the control measures, a relatively rational reinforced scheme is selected, which can provide valuable suggestions for engineering application. 
