Abstract: The threesection method and twosection method are usually applied to seepage computation of homogeneous earth dam.The two methods demand trialanderror o r graphic method during resolving the problem.The precisions of calculat ed results are not only low but also the operation needs large amount of manual computation.For this reason, in this pa per,it is pointed out that the seepage computation problem is essentially a nonl inear optimal problem,which can be resolved with the acclerating genetic algorit hm (AGA) developed by the authors.The results of the application examples show t hat the AGA is much more convenient in use high precision in result and wide ra n ge of validity. It is a new strong tool for widely applying the threesection m ethod to engineering project of practical earth dams.
