Abstract: Collapsed gully erosion is a special phenomenon of soil erosion in the red soil regions of south China, and is regarded as one of the most harmful erosion types. Exploring and refining the prevention and control measures in the purpose of an efficient, harmonious and stable artificial-natural ecosystem is significant for the sustainable use of soil and water resources and the sustainable development of ecological environment. In the present research, five control measures are proposed in line with the following basic principles the combination of utilization and ecological restoration, the combination of gully and slope governance, the combination of engineering measures and plants, and the combination of current governance and post-management.

Key words: red soil hilly region in south China, collapsed gully erosion, pattern, prevention and control
