Abstract: At present, most of the frequently-used comprehensive evaluation model for slope stability could only determine the stability level of slope, but cannot evaluate the degree that slope belongs to the stability level. On the basis of Euclidean distance model with weights, we improved the calculation of the weights by using variable weight formula of incentive type with balance functions. The n evaluation index was taken as the coordinate axes, and the lower limiting value of level I of slope stability was taken as the coordinate origin of the n-dimension space. The Euclidean distances with varying weights respectively between slopes and coordinate origin and between upper limiting values of slope stability levels and coordinate origin were calculated. The latter served as a distance level evaluation criteria. The Euclidean distance model with varying weights for the estimation of slope stability was thus established. This model was applied to the comprehensive assessment of slope stability, and was compared with grey analysis and extenics theory. The results indicate that the Euclidean distance model with varying weights is scientific, rational, and has potential in the comprehensive assessment of slope stability.
