Development Trend of Terrestrial Carbon Sink Based on Bibliometrics

Terrestrial carbon sink is an important part of the global carbon cycle, and its importance has become increasingly prominent in the context of global climate change. In this paper, a total of 8431 relevant literatures collected in the core collection of Web of Science and CNKI database from 1994 to 2024 are used as research objects by using the CiteSpace tool to draw a visual map of domestic and foreign literature co-citations, co-authors and keyword timelines. This paper deeply analyzes the distribution of the time, subject, journal and source country of the paper, presents high-impact institutions, high-yield authors and important research literatures, and explores the evolution and development process of keywords in different stages and their future trends based on Burst detection. The results show that: (1) The amount of carbon sequestration published on land has increased significantly in the past three decades, with an average annual growth rate of 12% after 2008 and 15% after 2019. (2) China is the country with the most published documents (2149 in English and 3704 in Chinese), followed by the United States (1504) and Germany (570). Journals such as Global Change Biology and Acta Ecologica have a large number of entries. (3) The evolution process of keywords can be mainly divided into three stages: from 1994 to 2008, the focus was on the basic theoretical research of carbon cycle, and the key buzzwords were carbon cycle, carbon balance, and vorticity related; From 2008 to 2019, research hotspots gradually expanded from the Earth's ecosystem to socio-economic aspects, with key buzzwords including net primary production, carbon exchange, ecological compensation, and low-carbon economy; Since 2019, the key buzzwords closely related to global carbon reduction targets and the realization of ecosystem value are carbon neutrality, carbon emissions, temperature sensitivity, ecological product accounting, and carbon trading; The future development direction is carbon sink monitoring and accounting, methods for reducing emissions and increasing sinks, carbon trading market mechanisms, and deepening international cooperation. The research results can provide basic information and policy recommendations for understanding the development trajectory and research hotspots of global terrestrial carbon sinks, predicting future development directions, and promoting the achievement of China's dual carbon goals.
