Abstract: When flood is released from high dam, water flow atomization may cause damage to the downstream buildings, the bank slope of both sides and the ecological environment, and even will threaten the safety of the project itself. Due to the continuous development of fog-rain intensity forecasting technique which is driven by prototype investigation, mathematical model research and physical model experiment, the engineering protection against flood discharge atomization has evolved from passive damage-restoration to actively adopting protection measures according to the prediction of rainfall intensity and atomization zone, and further developed to sectionalized protection of energy dissipating buildings and high side slopes. In this article, we summarize the investigation data of engineering protection measures and related research results, and conclude that the damage behavior of various protection materials in the presence of different rainfall intensities and the impact of atomization on eco-environment are important research tendencies in this regard.
